FINAL MAJOR PROJECT

 2ND YEAR OF LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA - ART AND DESIGN

For this project I looked into both the modern and traditional culture of Japan, 
focusing on their traditional dress and street style, 
I reflected on this by creating a piece which I felt interpreted my thoughts and findings on this best. 
I also looked into the Legend of Ryūjin 
focusing on a sea theme for the print and design of the garment as I feel the cross over of legend from past to present day, something that greatly inspires modern arts,
 be it film, photography, writing, painting or any other means, 
its important to carry on legends as they hold important meanings and messages that teach us life lessons.

 Honestly I fell in love with the colours of this piece, on another note, it's ridiculously comfy to wear. 

Wire Work

Yet another creation in the exploration of dragon sculptures! 

This time I used wire to create a more serpent like dragon, although he has no wings, or legs.... (dragon?... possibly more of a snake.. ) although this piece like the next was a short couple hour exploration piece, I still like him all the same. 

Creating the curves turned out better and easier than I assumed it would be, although after a while your fingers get sore, and the job becomes a little bit tedious. 

I unfortunately forgot to take a better picture when I'd finished, I'd put him in a better pose, a more coiled up look, hopefully I'll add a better picture later when I've taken a picture of him.

Clay

Having developed some form of clay skills I've come to terms with the unique "style" of my work. 

I wasn't completely satisfied with the mouth, although this piece was a 15 minute job and with more time to develop it I feel the outcome would have been more to my liking. This piece wasn't created for any specific purpose, I was working on my shaping skills, and decided to spice up my creation, and hey what better way to go about it than giving him some gruesome scars and horns, right?

This little guy I created whilst working on a Dragon inspired Plastic project, this clay piece although not plastic, was to look at different ways of sculpting the dragon form, I was particularly happy with the scales. 

(His design and form was inspired by Nicolas Marlet's concept art for the How To Train Your Dragon) 

A lot of smoothing and reshaping was needed but I was overall impressed with the success of this piece.

Final Major Project

To Infinity And Beyond

Below are some images of my completed Final Major Project, taken at a recent fashion shoot I set up to gather images of my piece and how it looks and works on the human form.

Fabrics used: Cotton, Polyester and Polyester Satin

Techniques used: Marbling, heat transfer print, cyanotype, bleed dye, block print, fabric manipulation

(I had boiled the heat transfer printed piece, with pennies wrapped inside, to give a bubbled look, which  indicate planets, the theme of this piece was Outer Space) 

Flight project (Group Piece)

For this project we were tasked with creating a group length of fabric, which was used in a dance performance at the Royal Albert Museum in Exeter. 

On this piece we joined Birds and butterflies together in a flock that traveled the length of the flock starting off small and getting bigger my contribution to this piece are the butterfly prints which were printed in black and white. I also aided my team in dying the length of fabric.

I had drawn the image then using that inverted it and had them blown up, using those images we had them made into screen prints. 

 After the print were done and dry we added Angelina fibers to the butterflies to give them a more iridescent quality 

Flight Project

During our Flight project we got the chance to create wire pieces which, are currently on display at Killerton House. The pieces were based around the theme of flight. I chose to look at Hummingbirds. The bellow pieces are made out of Wire and wire mesh.

I chose to display mine as a sort of hanging mobile style piece; using wire to hold them up.

I felt it the best way to display it as birds are creatures of flight.

These are closer up images of the pieces, as you can see I threaded wire through the mesh to add more detail to the piece, and give an illusion of feathers.
